Contact Hilary Brown for information on GNG in Chicago.
I learned to play music even before I learned to read. As a 25-year-old music writer and, recently, a record label A&R rep based out of Chicago, the gift of music has ultimately been the most fulfilling aspect of my life. As a player myself for over 10 years, there is nothing as mentally stimulating and rewarding as learning a new instrument. My life's goal is to educate others about the aesthetic pleasure of music, as well as expose others to the therapeutic benefits of playing an instrument. It has been a life-changing experience for me and I am confident that it will have a positive impact on the substantial number of at-risk youth in this city. I stumbled upon this organization by accident, and it astounded me that something like this had not made a bigger impact here.
Chicago in itself is undeniably a city rooted in music. It possesses a vast musical community and I have no doubt that Guitars Not Guns will flourish in the state of Illinois. I hope that as advocates of education, musicians and music lovers we will bring this organization full-swing and provide opportunities rather than obstacles. Guitars Not Guns will be a thriving force with incredible potential in our not-for-profit community.
