Monterey County Chapter of GNG to be Honored at California Nonprofits Day Celebration

The Monterey County, CA, chapter of Guitars not Guns has been chosen to be honored at the second annual California Nonprofits Day celebration On Wednesday, June 28, as a nonprofit of the year! The celebrations will be held at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

The chapter has been selected by State Senator Bill Monning as an exceptional nonprofit organization in his 17th District community and will join nearly one hundred other nonprofit leaders from across the state being honored at the annual California Nonprofits Day event, formally recognized by Assembly Concurrent Resolution 54, authored by the chair of the new Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector Assemblywoman Monique Limon (D-Santa Barbara).

The Monterey County Chapter of Guitars Not Guns was founded in 2010 in response to a tremendous need for programs that provide alternatives to gang violence for at-risk youth in our community. Since then the Monterey County Chapter has become one of the most dynamic chapters in the United States having donated over 1,400 guitars in the last 6 years.

Using music as a catalyst we encourage children and teens to use their creativity to foster personal development and to help divert them from self-destructive influences such as drugs, alcohol and gang-related activities. By providing free guitars and lessons we hope to engage their creative potential and help them achieve their dreams.
The award recipients will also be honored at a luncheon at Sacramento’s Convention Center.

A big congratulations to the leadership of the Monterey County chapter and all of its volunteers who work tirelessly to help the children. You are making an incredible difference in the lives of many!
